Apple confirms sale of 3 million iPads, since March 16 launch

The latest iPad may not have changed at all in the looks department; in fact it is only slightly thicker and heavier, as compared to its predecessor - the iPad 2. However, in terms of its internal specifications, Apple has bumped up the new iPad to a whole new level with it having some neat features, such as a Retina Display, a dual-core A5X processor, quad-core GPU, iSight camera and a larger battery, just to name a few. If one thought that the new iPad would not sell, given that it features a similar design, one can guess again as Apple have announced that three million units of the latest generation iPad have already been sold since March 16th 2012, its launch date.
As per the press release, “Apple today announced it has sold three million of its incredible new iPad, since its launch on Friday, March 16. The new iPad features a stunning new Retina display, Apple’s new A5X chip with quad-core graphics, a 5 megapixel iSight camera with advanced optics for capturing amazing photos and 1080p HD video, and still delivers the same all-day 10 hour battery life while remaining amazingly thin and light.” During the announcement, Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, said, “The new iPad is a blockbuster with three million sold―the strongest iPad launch yet. Customers are loving the incredible new features of iPad, including the stunning Retina display, and we can't wait to get it into the hands of even more customers around the world this Friday.”

The original iPad sold 3,00,000 units in the first day and made it to a million units within 28 days of its launch, while the iPad 2 touched the sales figure of a million units within just a matter of four days. The higher amount of sales are also due to the fact that Apple has pushed out the tablet to more countries, this time around, as compared to the previous two models. The new iPad is already available in the U.S, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Puerto Rico, Singapore, Switzerland, UK and the U.S Virgin Islands. The previous iPads were initially available only in the U.S and only later rolled out, globally.

The new iPad will be available in 24 more countries on Friday March 23rd, 2012.
