Nokia Lumia 900 proves it's hardcore in a nail-biting test

Nokia is currently in that place where they need to prove their mettle to the vast and ever mobile increasing mobile community, if they wish to get back into the game. Currently, the once king of the mobile hill, is running behind the pack and just about managing to stay visible. While they seem to be doing just as well as before in the lower budget segment, their higher end smartphones have been neglected in lieu of Google’s more popular Android platform.

But to prove to the world that their products are just as good as anyone else's, if not better, the Finnish company decided to showcase just how hardcore they can be. With kid gloves off, and to prove that their upcoming Windows smartphone, the Nokia Lumia 900, was as tough as nails the company took things to a very literal stage. As a demonstration to show the world that the Lumia 900’s display was capable of all kinds of pressure, demonstrators took a hammer and nails to it.

Not only did they manage to prove that the device’s display was capable of withstanding a severe beating with nails being hammered into the screen, but also used the device as a hammer itself. The reports and the video to go along with it showcased a Lumia 900 going through its rigorous workout and near impaling and surviving virtually unharmed.

According to a Nokia Failure Analysis Specialists, they got the idea for this drastic test from Sonim, a company that specializes in manufacturing rugged and Military Grade mobile handsets. They’ve tested their device in the same way going total ‘Carpenter’ on them. Corning's Gorilla Glass is also making a statement here proving just how resilient it can be to keep your phone protected.

At least, for the time being, Nokia can most certainly claim to have some of the sturdiest smartphones out there, even if popularity is still something they need to work just a little harder on. Granted, this is one way to get a consumer's attention.

In case you missed it earlier, the Lumia 900 will ship with WP7.5 (Mango) and it features a 1.4GHz Scorpion processor. Other specs include :–
  • 4.3-inch AMOLED ClearBlack Display with a resolution of 480 x 800
  • 3G, EDGE/GPRS, Wi-Fi, LTE (depending on location of launch)
  • Bluetooth v4.0, NFC, USB 2.0
  • 8 MP AF camera with Carl Zeiss optics, 720p video recording @ 30fps
  • Secondary 1 MP front facing camera
  • 16GB internal memory with 512 MB RAM
  • 1800 mAh battery

Obviously hammering nails into your phone or using it as a hammer are not options, we recommend you try at home. Leave it to the professionals. Also understand that irrespective of your current warranty/guarantee, putting your handset under these kinds of hardcore tests will render them null and void.
