After the XPS 15z, Dell have launched a new, smaller version called the 14z with the same winning formula. They've managed to squeeze in a 14-inch screen into a 13-inch form factor , mostly by reducing the thickness of the bezel. The slim notebook weighs about 1.9kg and features the same anodized aluminum finish. Prices start at Rs.66,900, as it's a premium product and actually makes a good alternative to Ultrabooks.
he 14z comes with Windows 7 Home Premium and is powered by Intel's 2nd- Generation Core i5 and i7 processors. The screen is LED backlit and sports a resolution of 1366x768. Dell is also offering an optional Nvidia graphics card, a GT 520M with 1GB RAM (with Optimus, of course) for those who wish to to a bit of 3D gaming. Other specs are prettty solid as well like 4GB RAM, choice between 500GB or 750GB hard drives, running at 7200rpm, slot loading DVD drive backlit chiclet keyboard and up to 6hrs and 40min of battery life on an 8-cell battery. Connectivity options include USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports, HDMI, LAN, mini-DP and microphone and headphone jacks.
Priced in the same vicinity as Lenovo's U300s Ultrabook, the 14z might just give it stiff competition, even though, technically, it belongs to a different category. But that line between slim notebooks and an Ultrabook is quite thin and for someone who dosen't care a about having the thinnest notebook, might be inclined to go fo the 14z, since it's better equipped for the same price.
