This could be any self-confessed Facebook-er's worst nightmare. Reportedly, a bug has been dished out on Facebook, which causes the system to throw up images of a particular user, which the other user doesn't otherwise have access to with a simple click. While the bug has been fixed now (Phew!), it did throw light on one very important aspect - blind dependence on the security on social networks! |
According to a post on Body Building.com, who were the first ones to spot the bug stated that the bug was in Facebook's 'Report Abuse' feature, which,although one may not use often, is known to most of its users.
Images, videos, or any other kind of content on Facebook reeking of nudity, violence, among other kinds of objectionable content can be got rid of by hitting Report Abuse. Now, while this happens, i.e. while a user sets out to report a particular image, the bug causes the system to throw up some other photos, when a user clicks on "Additionally you have the option to > Help us take action by selecting additional photos to include with your report"; only here the user who did not initially have the permission to view these images can now do so. Invariably, this became a tool for those snooping around the site, as it was possible to view personal images of people they were, either not friends with, or to whose photos they did not have access to.The bug, atleast for now has been fixed.
